Did i do the right thing? Pubic hair problem?

ok so im competitive swimmer and lately ive been really self conscious about my pubic hair. it shows on both sides of my swimming suit and i always hafta pull my suit down and stuff. i cant wear board shorts cuz im on a team and i gotta go fast. so basically today i got fed up and used my razor i use to shave me legs and underarms to shave just the sides of it. not the whole thing. just so it wudnt show on the side. will i get itchy and will it turn all ingrown and ugly and uncomfortable or was wat i did ok? i cant rlly use anything else to get rid of the hair because i dont wanna ask my mom. HELP!! advice appreciated.
